For Guy Gilchrist, creativity is an ever-expanding circle. Artist, poet, author, songwriter, musician, storyteller, teacher, he is a one-man entertainment conglomerate. He is known first and foremost for his work as writer and artist for the classic newspaper cartoon Nancy, with its millions of followers in nearly 400 newspapers in 80 countries around the world, but that is just the tip of a growing iceberg.
His other strips have included Jim Henson’s Muppets, which helped launch his career age 24, Your Angels Speak, Screams, and the widely syndicated Night Lights & Pillow Fights and Today’s Dogg. He is the author of 48 children’s books and was co-creator of The Muppet Babies. Along the way, Guy did work for classic cartoons such as Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Looney Toons, and The Pink Panther, drew envelope artwork for the launch of the U.S. Postal Services iconic 1986 “Love” stamp, and designed four logos for minor league teams, among many other endeavors.

A wonderer alone, on an Ole’ Lonesome Road, at 4 years old he was beat within an inch of his life by a step father who never had a good thing to say about anything or anybody, it was at that time his Papaw with a Shotgun in the truck went to his house and took him out of that bad home and into a home filled with love and kindness, it was there with his Mamaw and Papaw that he discovered the wonder of music. There was music at church, and in the living room of that little old trailer they called home. Born in Sunnyslope, Arizona in the summer of 1964, soon settling in to the small border town of Yuma, just south of Telegraph Pass and Southeast of the Kofa Mountains. Yuma was a great place to grow up as a kid; there was the desert, filled with its magic. Many a day was spent chasing Rattle Snakes and Gila Monsters, or in a few instances getting chased by them. His Papaw played a 68 model Martin D-28, although a prized possession, his Papaw never mentioned a word about his getting it out to play. By 8 years old there had been many chances to hear live music, many times the events of the day would come to the Old Yuma Union High School, one such time, Porter Wagoner, Jim Ed Brown and Dolly Parton with Spec Rose made an appearance in the fall of 1972, JD sat on the edge of that old stage while the artist signed autographs after the show, Dolly Parton signed a picture and gave it to him, and then they played faded love, Dolly made a cheerful little comment about growing up and coming to Nashville and looking her up, he never did, but it was a memory he always enjoyed. The years passed and many fiddlers contest and summer bluegrass festivals came and went, in the summer of 1978 he moved to Prescott, AZ with his mother, and the move was bitter sweet, he was relived his mother was away from the man who had caused her so much grief in her life, but it was his direction which caused him so much despair. He became involved in drugs and drinking and soon his grades slipped, he found himself drawn to the lonely country sounds of the western bands playing on Whisky Row. White Buffalo and Rod Heart were regulars and sometimes they would let him play a song or two, he had a job in the Palace Barber shop shining shoes and spending his money as fast as he made it in the bars and honky Tonks watching the bands play. School was a faded memory he struck off on his own, playing music in little dives in Phoenix, and Apache Junction, AZ he finally made his way to the band “DEPARTURE” short lived they made many appearances on the local circuit. Hammer Heads, The Mason Jar, Rockers, etc.etc.etc….. Not until he sat in with a small band playing at Mr. Lucky’s off of Grand Ave did he really find his place in the music world. He felt the bright lights and the sounds of a live steel guitar playing for him. Like a fish on the end of a line he was hooked. Soon after he was invited to record at Pantheon Studio’s, the sessions were his first and the experience taught him many lessons. As time went on he played for several bands, some road bands, and some house bands. In 1991 came a little girl, he placed his desire to play music on the back burner to raise his daughter as a single dad. There were times he played with local bands and he filled in many times for a short tour band, but not until his daughter was raised did he consider making music his fulltime project. Danny Gatton in Maryland was a friend and always told him he would know when the time was right to” Hit it hard” as he would say. Over the years he has rode motorcycles, been in and out of trouble for fighting and drinking, always a loyal friend, if you were to find yourself in the pokey, he would not bail your !@#$%^&* out, because he would be sitting next to you. He considers Suitcase Red, Billy Joe Shaver, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Jimmy Rodgers, and James Elvin Smith as his Hero’s. In today’s Country the phrase Outlaw Country is tossed around like an old Boot. 30 seconds after you see JD hit the stage you will know what Outlaw Country is all about. To my sweet, wonderful Mother and her family and my sorry ass brother the preacher, God was the law. To Dad and me the law wore a badge and gun and only brought bad news. My dad was my best friend he died in 1978. I have been playing my music in honkytonks since before I was old enough to be in them legally. I have performed from Honolulu to Berlin, from NYC to Toyko. I have seen the Aurora Borealis from both sides of the northern hemisphere . I ain't saying that I have as many miles on me as Willie or Earnest Tubb or Keith Richards cause that would be a God Damn lie. However, I am well traveled. I guess you could say a road scholar. ........ Likes: .... Rick Rubin who signed Johnny Cash because he didn't have a label. .... Sex, Drugs and Rock and Hoes .... My greatest moments that come to mind are: .... 1 The birth of my two children, Jesse James Burns and Natalie Ruth Burns.... 2 When Johnny Cash sent me a hand written letter of congratulations.... 3 Willie Nelson recording one of my songs .... 4 Getting the chance to produce Johnny Paycheck, Merle Haggard and Tanya Tucker .... 5 When Porter Wagoner introduced me on the Grand Ole Opry .... 6 When I was a guest on late night NYC raido with Joey Rheynolds and Les Paul called up and talked about my music, his music and what ever. .... 7 When Harlon Howard signed me as a staff writer with his publishing company .... 8 Getting a 4-star review from German writer Jorg Feyer in Rolling Stone Magazine .... 9 When my old friend The Late Great Mack Vickery called me up and asked if I would like to spend the weekend in Memphis with him and the killer Jerry Lee Lewis. .... 10 Hearing The Late Great Earnest Tubb introduce me to sing on his stage........

Over the decades, Sam has performed from coast to coast, as far north as ski slopes of New England and as far south as the blue waters of the Carribean, in many styles and genres. As a resident of Nashville, TN, he often performs in songwriter settings there. As a vocalist, guitarist and bass player, Sam started performing professionally in the late 1960's. While still in Richmond, Sam played guitar behind both singer/songwriters Cleve Francis (also an accomplished producer/artist) and the late great Steve Yudowich from 1970 to 1971. After moving to New Jersey at the beginning of 1972, he performed (in chronological order) as a soloist and as a member of bands such as SOUTHBOUND, BONE DRY, TRICK ZIPPER, OPUS I, THE ACME BOOGIE COMPANY (which originally also included long-time friend Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez, who was Bruce Springsteen's drummer from the 60's all the way through his second album on Columbia Records), DEUCE COUPE (with Lisa Martin), VINI LOPEZ AND THE DISCO REJECTS, THE MIGHTY ACCENTS, PHATMAN (featuring Slick Aguilar who is the long-time guitarist for Paul Kantner and Marty Balin, as well as a long-time member of JEFFERSON STARSHIP), MAJOR WOODY & THE SPLINTERS, THE SONNY PREWITT BAND and HEY! BETTY! Currently, he still occasionally performs at various locations in Nashville, TN, where he continues to share the stage with some of the top writers and recording artists.

Melanie Rose Dyer's new album, recorded in Nashville over the past three years, is titled The Long Way Around. That's an apt title for a project that has literally been a lifetime in the making.

“This is my life's project – it kind of is my life story,” Dyer says.

This is no typical Music Row production. It has little in common with today's mainstream country (though acts ranging from Reba to Wynonna to Lady A would be wise to raid it for songs). Dyer calls it “American roots rock with R&B influences.” She adds: “It's a very song-driven project … personal songwriting tapping into universal emotions. Real life, real emotions. It kind of goes back to my roots, what I used to do.”

Donny Barthelemy was born on September 6 in York, PA., twenty miles north of the Mason Dixon Line. Donny bought his first guitar at a pawnshop at age 14, nothing unusual really for most singer/songwriters, except for the fact that Donny’s first musical teacher/guru was none other than ‘Gus Backus’ of the ‘Del Vikings’. “He taught me how to tune the guitar, and some chords and also showed me the beauty of writing your own songs,” remarks Barthelemy. Donny has always put his faith in his Lord & savior Jesus Christ.

Kurt Fortmeyer was born in a barn and raised in a stable environment, or so he might tell an unwitting listener in one of his sillier moments. His life was changed irreparably at a tender and impressionable age when he was subjected to Roger Miller’s “Do-Wacka-Do”, as well as recordings of Allan Sherman, Chubby Checker, and Trini Lopez. When he’s not performing his original tunes at writers’ nights around Nashville, Kurt can often be heard performing songs by other singer-songwriters such as Robert Earl Keen, Tom Russell, Guy Clark, Darden Smith, and Butch Hancock. Kurt has shared the stage with Grammy-winning songwriters Steve Leslie and R.L. Castleman. and Hall Of Fame songwriters Don Wayne and Jimmy Payne. He has opened shows for a good number of artists including Livingston Taylor, Emmylou Harris, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. As at home in front of a microphone as he is on a front porch, Kurt plays real music, by, for, and about real people. Amen.

"Rock and Roll My Soul" and the "Musicians Care Network" is coming to Jackson July 16th for a concert event at Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre. It will be held from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Rock and Roll My Soul is the entertainment side of the Musicians Care Network, where working musicians can join a program to receive basic services for medical, dental and mental care. The founders are working to set up networks in every city in the United States that doesn't have a similar program.
